Ceramic Dog Bowls Are Cool But Are They Right?

Sunday, January 10th, 2010

Ceramic dog bowls are great to look at but are they worth the money?  You can buy a ceramic dog bowl that cost anywhere from $6.00 all the way up to $100.00 or more. Now keep in mind that your dog has no idea how much you paid for their bowls. All they care about is that there is food and clean water in them.

Your dog probably spends more time using their food and water bowls than they do with any other pet product. That is why we as their owners (let’s be serious our pets really own us) need to make sure that they have the right bowls. The wrong bowls can result in health problems that you might not be aware of.

Ceramic dog bowls are a good choice because:

1.They have flat bottoms which prevents tipping over and spilling

2.They also feature designs that that compliment your décor

     3.They are dishwasher safe

4.They come in a good range of sizes

Keep in mind that if your child is going to be feeding your dog you may not want ceramic dog bowls. They will break if dropped and can get cracks in them that a child might not notice.

Cracks can be especially dangerous to your dogs’ health. Bacteria can breed in the small cracks and cause parasites in your dog.

Other things to consider when buying your dogs bowls are:

     1.The size of your dog

2.The length of your dogs’ snout – long or short

3.The size of your dogs’ ears

These things are important because:

1.If you have a large dog you will need a large dog bowl

2.If your dog has a short snout they will not be comfortable eating out of a deep bowl and if your dog has a long snout they will need a deep bowl

3.Yes the size of your dogs’ ears matter because if they are getting their ears in their food or water and they are not cleaned immediately your dog can end up with ear mites.

Ceramic dog bowls can also be placed into a dog feeding station that raise the bowls off of the floor. Raised dog bowls are especially important for large dogs. Without them large dog breeds will need to have their heads and necks pointed towards the floor when they eat or drink. This can cause digestive problems for your dog.

As your large breed dog gets older chances are they will develop hip problems or arthritis. Bending over to get food or water will then be painful for your dog. Looking into a dog feeding station that is raised may relieve your dogs’ pain.

In closing, Ceramic dog bowls are fine for your dog. Just remember to check for any cracks and be careful if a child is going to handle the ceramic dog bowls.
