shortly i will be getting a childrens or carpet python and i am know that they need a bowl big enough to lie in, so i bought a stainless steel large dogs bowl. Would thid be ok?
The other option, which would look much more natural, is a fiberglass bowl from a water feature but it has pebbles glued to the fiberglass. would this somehow hurt the snakes belly when entering or exiting the bowl?

I would stick with the dog bowl. I use it for my pythons and I know a few breeders who use them. So the dog bowls are ok. Plus, the dog bowls are harder to knock over.

I have two large what I believe are stainless steel dog bowls that are used in a nice custom-built elevated dog feeder. I have had and used these SS bowls for 33 years. Recently I noticed something – when I wash with soap and water then dry the bowls with a white paper towel or similiar, the paper towel turns dark grey – the color of the bowls. (they are not polished SS – more like brushed). What’s going on here? If this is indeed SS rubbing off, is this possible? Is it possible I do not have SS bowls afterall, but perhaps aluminum bowls, and if so, could this then be aluminum rubbing off? I am 99% certain these are SS bowls – they have never rusted and look and feel like steel to me. In any case, I mostly fear this is not good to have this metallic substance rubbing off especially since my dog is consuming food and water from them. Also, something important to note – you can ONLY rub off (without much effort, by the way) this grey matter if the bowl or towel is WET. If dry, nothing rubs off – the white paper towel or cloth remains white and clean. But when wet, it is a dramatic change of color, completely saturating the towel used with this material. Has anyone ever heard of such a thing??
I’ve placed it in the dishwasher thousands of times. Cleans up nice, but the problem still remains. When I get it wet and dry it, it will turn the white towel grey – like the finish is rubbing off. Does it everytime. Trust me, ther’s no “film” on it after 33+ years.

Good idea with the magnet, Bob! Though I didn’t know that good quality stainless steel was not magnetic. Am trying it now: yep, sticks pretty good.

By the way, the other’s saying it is the water – it’s STAINLESS STEEL – water should not affect it (especially mine, which is filtered – twice). Actually nothing should – it should last forever.

Has the water you used changed? Maybe the soap causes a chemical reaction when you wash.
